Cal Poly men’s tennis lost 4-1 to No. 61 Boise State at the Appleton Tennis Center on March 13, ending their penultimate week of non-conference play.
The result leaves the Mustangs with an overall record of 8-5 as they prepare for one more week of non-conference matches before starting Big West competition. Upcoming ranked opponents include Denver on March 23 and Santa Clara on March 25.
Boise State, now holding a record of 13-5, secured the doubles point by winning matches on courts one and three. Jack Cross and Sean Kamyshev were defeated 6-0, while Luc Hoeijmans and Raz Haviv’s match was left unfinished after Jovan Lubbe and Leo Matthysen lost a close contest at the top spot, 6-4.
In singles play, senior Aaron Eliscu earned his eighth singles victory of the season with a straight-set win (7-5, 7-5) at court six. Lubbe was competing at court two and trailed when play was halted; he remains at a season record of 6-5. Hoeijmans’ match at court one also went unfinished as he trailed in the second set. Cross lost his singles match at court four (6-3, 6-4), Haviv fell at court three (6-3, 6-4), and Kamyshev was defeated at court five (6-2, 6-3).
The Mustangs will next face Montana State in Boise before returning home to host No. 73 Denver and then traveling to No. 38 Santa Clara later in March.
