Bussey, who previously wrestled for Granite Bay High School, won his first five matches in freestyle to advance to the semifinals. Three of these victories were secured by technical fall. In the semifinals, he lost to Michael Boyle of Ohio by a 3-0 decision but recovered with a win over Aiden Cooley from Texas. In the third-place match, Bussey was defeated by Kai Calcutt of Illinois and concluded the tournament with a record of six wins and two losses.
He also participated in Greco-Roman competition after his freestyle performance, posting a 5-2 record with four wins by technical fall and reaching the consolation quarterfinals.
During his senior year at Granite Bay High School, Bussey recorded a 51-1 season and won the 190-pound title at the Doc Buchanan Invitational. This achievement made him Granite Bay High’s first state champion wrestler. Bussey is expected to compete at 197 pounds during his upcoming freshman season with Cal Poly.
